The 21st AusCERT conference is delivering a message of kindness to shape the narrative of cyber-security in retaliation to uber threats of unkind actors.

One way to intervene on Russia’s physical onslaught is through cyberwar, which is being fought from all sides. Enter Anonymous. In their words, “internet-based, international team from literally all around the world.” In our words, cyber-advocacy for the underestimated wrath and underprivileged citizens of the world, through exploitation of fake news and unjust criminal war activity. They have tweeted a call for hackers to join the squad.

A white hat is a hacker with heart, Wiki gives a conservative definition here but a description with firework flair was recently documented in a Bloomberg piece quoting self-aggrandising hacker, Tillie Kottmann, “lots of curiosity, fighting for freedom of information and against intellectual property, a huge dose of anti-capitalism, a hint of anarchism — and it’s also just too much fun not to do it.” That really turns the hacker ‘stealing data and cash’ trope on its head.
