What are DDoS Attacks?

DDoS is a Distributed Denial of Service Attack. It uses sets of computers and personal devices from around the world to coordinate sending access requests to a single website or Application. The intention is to overload the systems capabilities. This can result in a hardware failure – meaning it will shut down completely.

If the attack came from a single computer (DoS Attack), you could easily identify the attack via the IP making the requests and block it from your system. However because DDoS attacks use a set of computers and personal devices (sometimes hundreds) it is often harder to identify if this is a coordinated attack or just a coincidence.
